Écritures spatiales et récits environnementaux

Workshop organisé dans le cadre de la présentation de l’installation médiatique Orée des bois de Médiane (Chaire de recherche du Canada en arts, écotechnologies de pratique et changements climatiques) et la cellule de recherche artistique Ælab au cœur des sciences de l’université du Québec à Montréal du 18 juin au 3 juillet 2022.

L’activité « Écritures spatiales et récits environnementaux » proposait à ses participant.e.s un atelier de cartographie collective et performative développées sur deux séances de 4 heures. En lien avec les thèmes et les recherches développées par la chaire de recherche Médiane, l’atelier se voulait être un espace de réflexion et d’expérimentation pour repenser la relation que nous tissons avec la nature en milieu urbain, à partir de l’expérience située du Jardin du Cœur des sciences et de l’installation médiatique.

Durant cet atelier, une approche collective de la cartographie a favorisé la création et l’utilisation de cartes performatives et incarnées, associées à une collecte de données sensibles in situ.

​

Par le texte, le son, l’image, le dessin, la performance, l’objectif était d’explorer collectivement des pratiques d’écritures sensibles, poétiques et nomades du territoire, tout en questionnant les méthodes plus traditionnelles et objectives qui profitent aux discours dominants. L’atelier a introduit les participants.es aux modes et applications de la représentation cartographique comme à leurs possibles détournements dans le domaine des arts et des sciences humaines par une série d’exercices exploratoires.

Workshop organized as part of the presentation of the media installation Orée des bois de Médiane (Canada Research Chair in arts, ecotechnologies of practice and climate change) and the Ælab artistic research cell at the heart of sciences at the University of Quebec to Montreal from June 18 to July 3, 2022.

 

The “Spatial writing and environmental stories” activity offers its participants a collective and performative mapping workshop developed over two 4-hour sessions. In connection with the themes and research developed by the Médiane research chair, the workshop was intended to be a space for reflection and experimentation to rethink the relationship we build with nature in an urban environment, based on the situated experience of the Jardin du Cœur des sciences and the media installation.

During this workshop, a collective approach to cartography favored the creation and use of performative and embodied maps, associated with the collection of sensitive data in situ.

​

Through text, sound, image, drawing, performance, the objective was to collectively explore sensitive, poetic, and nomadic writing practices of the territory, while questioning the more traditional and objective methods which benefit the dominant discourses. The workshop introduced participants to the modes and applications of cartographic representation as well as their possible diversions in the field of arts and human sciences through a series of exploratory exercises.
